THE MESSY DAY - WHELPING DAY

Pepsi given birth on 26th Oct 2005.

One week ago, I've prepared all the necessary items to get ready to help her deliver.

1) Surgcial Gloves

2) Blunt Scissors to cut umbilical cord

3) Aspirator to blow out excess liquid in the nose

4) Dental Floss to tie the umbilical cord

5) Lubricant to lubricate birth canal

6) Weighing Machine to take puppy's weight

7) Carton box for giving birth inside

Her contraction started at about 5.30pm and lasted about 1hr, 6.30pm her placenta bubble burst and then she start pushing till 7pm the 1st puppy came out. I help her to pull out the puppy because its a breech puppy.

Once the puppy is out, I quickly remove the sac and use the dry towel to wipe the puppy and use the aspirator to blow air into the mouth and nose (to blow out excess liquid) for the puppy to breath. Then gentle snap on the back, to make sure the puppy cry.

This puppy didnt make it, its die after 1hr because he doesnt know how to drink milk.

9pm the 2nd puppy came out and its also a breech puppy but is much easiler to pull out. After I dry her and put her near her mother's body she know how to find milk and she very active.

Female : 240g

So now wait for the 3rd pup to arrive, its a long wait....

Pepsi in contraction.

Puppy coming out from birth canal

At 11.45pm the placenta bubble burst and still no sign of the puppy, I quickly wear the gloves and put my finger into the birth canal and check, I can feel the hands of the puppy but I cant get it out! I ask pepsi to push hard and she did but still cant come out! I was worried so I called the emergency vet and the person on the line asked me "Who is your appointed doctor?" I say I dont have any, then this person say "I'm sorry I cant help you, you must have an appointed Doc then I can call them! Why dont you try calling MtP.... Hospital, maybe they can help you" I was angry and I said to him, "my dog is in danger now, cant you just call any Vet and instead you ask me to call here call there!" He replied "I'm sorry, this is the rule." No choice, I called the Hospital and this person I talked to is so nice, he said "yes, you can come down now, we have doctor on duty and just let you know the consultation fees is S$150 exclude medical & other charges."

Alright no choice after hang up the phone, I went into the room and get change, all prepared to send her there. Then I saw her walked to the kitchen and pee but nothing come out.

She went back to the box and after she sit down, the puppy come out by itself! (Its past midnight 12am - 27th Oct 2005)

Female : 210g

Next, I've to make sure Pepsi dont have any more puppy because according to the x-ray result there might have 4 puppies! Until 4am, still no sign of contraction so I decide to take some sleep and wait till the emergency charges over then go see the Vet.

8.30am called the Hospital again, the same person (I think) said "If you wanna come down now is still under the emergency fees and consultation is S$80, only after 9.30am is our normal charges."

Ok, since she looks fine, then I'll wait till 9.30am.
